Salary to Hourly Calculator

A salary to hourly calculator converts annual pay to an hourly rate by dividing salary by yearly working hours (40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080). For example, a $60,000 salary equals $28.85 per hour, and $25 per hour equals $52,000 per year.

How it works

Hourly = Salary ÷ (Hours/week × Weeks/year); Salary = Hourly × Hours/week × Weeks/year

  1. Multiply weekly hours by weeks worked to get yearly working hours (the standard full-time figure is 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours).
  2. Divide annual salary by yearly hours for the hourly rate, or multiply an hourly wage by yearly hours for the salary.
  3. All results are gross (pre-tax) pay; use a state paycheck calculator for take-home amounts.

Worked example

$60,000 ÷ 2,080 hours = $28.85 per hour. In reverse: $25/hour × 2,080 = $52,000 per year, or about $4,333 per month.

Frequently asked questions

How much is $60,000 a year per hour?

$60,000 per year is $28.85 per hour at 40 hours per week (60,000 ÷ 2,080 working hours). That is about $1,154 per week or $5,000 per month, before taxes.

How much is $50,000 a year per hour?

$50,000 per year works out to $24.04 per hour at 40 hours per week (50,000 ÷ 2,080), or roughly $4,167 per month gross.

$25 an hour is how much a year?

$25 per hour equals $52,000 per year at 40 hours per week (25 × 2,080), which is about $4,333 per month or $2,000 per biweekly paycheck, before taxes.

How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the salary by your yearly working hours. Full-time is typically 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so divide the salary by 2,080. If you work different hours, adjust the inputs above.

How many working hours are in a year?

A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). Actual hours worked are usually lower once paid holidays and vacation are taken, but salary conversions conventionally use 2,080.

Do these numbers include taxes?

No — all conversions here are gross (pre-tax) pay. Federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and state tax reduce take-home pay; our state paycheck calculators estimate the after-tax amount.

What about overtime or part-time work?

Change "Hours per week" to match your schedule. Overtime hours beyond 40 are typically paid at 1.5× the regular rate for non-exempt workers under the FLSA, which this simple conversion does not add automatically.
